Session 1
What is special education? (1.5 hours)
At the end of this session, special educators will be able to:
Understand the different buckets of education (Content, Process, Product).
Understand the difference between modification and differentiation.
Understand the different type of disabilities.
Understand the difference between an IEP and a 504 and their implications for testing accommodations.
Session 2
Classifications – Learning Profile (1.5 hours)
At the end of this session, new speducators will be able to:
Understand high incidence disabilities and how to utilize strategies that will help students to access common core standards through a learning profile activity.
Session 3
Evaluations and Data Tracking/Reporting (1.5 hours)
At the end of this session, new speducators will be able to:
Understand the different kind of evaluations that exist within the special education framework.
Understand the review process and documentation needed to facilitate review meetings.
Understand the purpose of FBAs and BIPs (practice writing one).
Understand the process for a manifestation determination review.
Session 4
IEP and Goal Writing (1.5 hours)
At the end of this session, new speducators will be able to:
Understand the writing process for IEP’s (interactive practice).
Understand how to develop and write IEP goals that are actionable, relevant and specific to the learning needs of their student (interactive practice).
